Rites Tuesday for Cornell Oleson, 74
Funeral services for Cornell Oleson will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Estherville Lutheran church, the Rev. L.G. Hinderaker officiating. Mr. Oleson had suffered a stroke Tuesday evening and died at 8:10 a.m. yesterday at Holy Family hospital.

Mr. Oleson was born near Gibson City, Ill., on May 28, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Oleson. At the age of 15 he moved with his parents to Sibley, Ill., where the family farmed on the Sibley Estates.

On Feb. 14, 1901, he married Hilma F. Bartelson and the couple farmed in Illinois until moving to Iowa in 1913. In Iowa they bought a farm eight miles northwest of Estherville, where they lived until 1930. They then moved to a farm which they purchased five miles northwest of Estherville.

Mr. and Mrs. Oleson moved into Estherville in 1949 and made their home at 526 North 10th street.

Surviving his death are his three sons, Maurice and Victor of Estherville and Chester of Bird Island, Minn. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Allie Sando of Minneapolis and Mrs. George (Cora) Nolte of Ames; two brothers, John of Cropsey, Ill., and Frank of Ringsted; and eight grandchildren.

Those who preceded him in death were his wife on March 1, 1958, his mother on March 1, 1954, a son Everett at the age of 13, a sister Edith and a brother Alfred.

Mr. Oleson was an active member of the Estherville Lutheran church. He served as a member and later as president of the Farmers Mutual Fire and Lightning association of Emmet county an office which he held at the time of his death.

Friends may call at the Sandin funeral home from tomorrow noon until 11 a.m. Tuesday. His body also will lie in state at the church from noon Tuesday up until time of the services at which time the casket will be closed and will not be opened after the service.
