A.J. (Tony) Loftis
Estherville – Services for A.J. (Tony) Loftis, 67, Estherville, were held 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Estherville, with the Reverend Harrison Dawes officiating. Burial was at East Side Cemetery with Henry-Olson Funeral Home in charge. Loftis died Saturday [July 9, 1977] morning at Holy Family Hospital.

He was born April 8, 1910 at Motley, Minn., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Loftis. He was educated in the Brigman, Minn. schools. He married Dorothy Sidles Feb. 27, 1935 at Dolliver and moved to the Huntington area in 1928, farmed there, in the Gruver area for 13 years and in the Armstrong area for 18 years. He retired and moved to Estherville in 1967.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Estherville.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, two daughters – Mrs. Kathleen Foster and Mrs. James (Jane) Dalen, both of Spencer, three grandchildren, five sisters – Mrs. Joe Hazuka, Mrs. Kathryn Scruppie, Mrs. George Davenport, all of Motley, Mrs. Joe Scandin, Duluth, Minn. and Mrs. Mel Rosevink, San Bernadine, Calif., and five brothers – Larry Loftis, Idaho, Francis Loftis, Moorhead, Minn., William Loftis, Spirit Lake, Martin Loftis, Brainerd, Minn., and Patrick Loftis, San Bernadino, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 11, 1977)
