Frank Linke Succumbs to Heart Failure at Hotel in Fairmont, Minnesota
Falls Dead in Hallway
Started to Go Up Stairs, and Falls Backward and Expires Before Medical Aid Can Be Summoned
Frank William Linke, aged 28 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Linke of this city died of heart failure at the Foster Hotel, Fairmont, Minn., Friday morning.Since leaving Estherville a couple of months ago, he had been working in St. Paul. He arrived in Fairmont the day before his death and was not feeling well when he arrived, was noticed by parties who saw him, both on the street and at the hotel. He however made no complaint and secured a room and laid down. A gentleman in the next room to him noticed that he breathed very hard, during the time he was sleeping and remarked about it. He got up and walked down stairs, fully dressed and apparently not knowing the location of the office opened the door to the sitting room and looked in. There was a sick person and a nurse in the room and he turned and closed the door. He apparently started to retrace his way up the stairs when he fell, as he was lying just at the foot of the stairs, when those who heard him fall arrived. He was at once picked up and medical assistance summoned but too late. Life was extinct.
Frank was a good, hard working young man. Nearly his whole life was spent in Estherville and for many years he worked for various poultry firms here. He started in that work when L.R. Bingham & Son were in the business and has since been with the Highle Company until about five or six weeks ago, when he quit that firm and went to St. Paul. He had apparently been suffering with some kind of affection of the chest of heart before his sudden death as his breast showed signs of having been poultice or blistered after his death. He was identified by letters found on his person and his father and mother in this city were notified by phone. Wm. Linke of this city and Frank Ziemer of near Dunnell, went to Fairmont at once and brought the remains to this place where the funeral was held Sunday afternoon.
His sudden death was a terrible shock to his parents, who are well along in years. His funeral was largely attended and the tribute of flowers was magnificent.
Frank William Linke was born Sept. 21, 1878 in Brandenberg, Province of Kreich, Germany. He came to America with his parents when a very small child. For about twenty-three years he has lived in Estherville. About five weeks ago he went to St. Paul to work and continued there until a few days ago when he went to Fairmont, Minn., to secure work, where he died Nov. 23, 1906, aged 28 years, two months and one day. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in infancy.
His death came as a very great shock to his family and friends. He died a stranger among strangers.
He leaves to mourn his loss a father and mother, one brother and four sisters and a large circle of friends.
Funeral services conducted from the German Lutheran church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. A.C. Droz. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 28, 1906)
