Walter G. Kroenke, 34, of Estherville, was killed when the car he was driving collided nearly head-on with a bus. Kroenke was attempting to pass a line of cars, witnesses said, when the bus appeared from the other direction.

The bus carried several passengers. They were not injured. (Cedar Rapids Gazette, Cedar Rapids, IA, March 2, 1953)

Walter Gustave Kroenke, 34, of Estherville, was killed in a car-bus collision three miles south of Gretna, Neb. on Highway 6. None of the passengers aboard the bus was hurt.

A state patrolman said the accident occurred when Kroenke pulled out of his lane after noting several cars stalled in the snow ahead. (Carroll Daily Times Herald, Carroll, IA, March 2, 1953)

Kroenke Rites Tomorrow
Funeral services from Walter Gustave Kroenke, 33, of Estherville, will be held at 2 pm. Tomorrow at the Immanuel Lutheran church, the Rev. William P. Henline officiating. Mr. Kroenke was killed in a car-bus collision Sunday [March 1, 1953] near Gretna, Neb., on his way back from visiting friends and relatives in Lincoln, Neb. Burial will be in Eastside cemetery. Friends may call at the Sternborg funeral home today and until 10 a.m. tomorrow, when the body will be taken to lie in state at the church up to the time of the funeral.
