Last Rites for Thomas Kinnard Set
Thomas Kinnard, 85, a life-long resident of Emmet County, died at 5:45 o’clock last night at the Good Samaritan Home where he had lived for the past 10 months. His death was attributed to complications of old age.He was born on a farm northeast of Estherville on July 21, 1876, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Kinnard. Mr. Kinnard received his education in rural Emmet County schools.
On Aug. 1, 1904 he was married to Anna Marie Harsted by the Rev. Mr. Thompson at a Lutheran Church in Estherville. At the time of his death, Mr. and Mrs. Kinnard were the oldest married couple in the Estherville Lutheran Church congregation.
Mr. Kinnard was an employee of the Rock Island Railroad for many years before he became a salesman for Gamble Robinson Co. At the age of 65, he began to assist his son in the local Kinnard Dairy business. He continued his work at the dairy until his retirement at the age of 80.
Mr. Kinnard is survived by his widow, of Estherville, three sons, Thomas Edward, William and Robert, all of Estherville; three daughters, Mrs. Lars (Ellen) Thomsen of Wallingford, Mrs. Ernest (Lillian) Hanson and Mrs. Evelyn Bormann, both of Estherville, 26 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one son, three brothers and one grandson.
Family services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Estherville Lutheran Church with public services to follow at 2:00. The Rev. Roy M. Hendrickson will officiate with burial to be in East Side Cemetery.
Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday until 11:00 a.m. Thursday. The casket will not be opened following services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 27, 1962)
