Allan Ray Tostenson, the son of Gloide and Lois (Schartenberg) [Scharfenberg] Tostenson, was born December 17, 1929 in Estherville, Iowa and departed this life at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville on Sunday, June 5, 1988 at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 18 days.

He received his education in the Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1947. He attended Estherville Junior College and later Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, graduating in 1951.

On September 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to JoAnn Gustafson in Estherville. Allan has been a lifetime resident of Estherville, where from 1952 to 1971 he co-owned and operated the Farmers Egg Company. He has been employed by the Superior Co-op Elevator in Superior since 1973.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, Knights of Columbus, where he served as Past Grand Knight, Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, and the Bustle Rustlers Square Dance Club.

Mr. Tostenson is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. Steven (Laura) Zabel of Casper, Wyoming; Cindy Tostenson of St. Louis, Missouri, two sons, Chuck Tostenson of Estherville; Gary Tostenson of Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren, Tracy, Amy and Beth Tostenson; his mother, Lois Tostenson of Estherville; and one brother, Gloide Tostenson of Estherville. He has been predeceased by his father, who died in 1964, and an infant daughter. (MC)
