Lillian Rosalia Boecker, the daughter of Wm. and Theresa (Ziser) Boecker, was born February 17, 1910 in rural Graettinger, Iowa and she passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 29 days.
Lillian received her education in the rural schools near Graettinger and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1928. She continued her education in Cedar Falls, Iowa at summer school and was a teacher in the rural Palo Alto County schools for fourteen years.
On September 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Kenneth M. Thompson at Graettinger, Iowa. They lived in Chicago, Illinois until 1943 and then returned to Emmet County. In 1949, they moved into Estherville. Lillian was employed at Butterfield Produce for twenty-five years. She was later employed with her husband, at the Emmet County Courthouse for twelve years, retiring in 1981. Kenneth passed away on March 15, 1999.
Lillian was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lillian was an avid reader, loved to play bingo and crocheting.
Lillian is survived by her three children, Larry Thompson of Iowa City, Iowa; Marlys Unrau and her husband, John of Spencer, Iowa; Sandra Thompson of Estherville; six grandchildren, Theresa Thompson; Cheryl Daws and her husband, Charles, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jennifer Aldridge and her husband, Jeremy of Los Angeles, California; Dan Schlarbaum; Joe Schlarbaum both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Andy Unrau of San Diego, California; three great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; four sisters-in-law, Lenore Boecker of Estherville; Glenadine Boecker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Opal Anderson of Graettinger, Iowa; Mildred Thompson of Arnolds Park, Iowa and also by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her parents, seven brothers, Ben, Frank, John, Tom, Joe, Vincent and Russell and two sisters, Mayme Hassel and Myrtle Garrelts. (MC)
