Leslie Lee Soper, the son of Charles William and Esther Lillian (Boe) Soper was born April 25, 1928, in Osgood, Iowa and departed this life on Saturday, October 2, 1999 at the age of 71 years, five months and seven days.
He received his education in the Emmetsburg Public Schools. Les worked construction in Emmetsburg, Coralville, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Watertown, South Dakota.
On June 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Ann Geilenkirchen at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952- 1954 serving as a Corporal. Les was stationed at Camp Carson, Colorado and Pusan, Korea, working as a heavy equipment operator. After his discharge from the military, he continued to work construction. In 1963, he began working for Golden Sun Feeds in Estherville. He was disabled with a stroke in 1987 and retired from Golden Sun feeds in 1993. Mrs. Soper died June 14, 1996.
Les was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #3388 both of Estherville. Les was an avid outdoorsman.
Mr. Soper is survived by his children, Kayleen Bingen of Estherville; Joleen Dietenberger and her husband, Mark of Marshall, Wisconisn; Dean Soper of Iowa City, Iowa; Charles Soper and his wife, Leah of Lakewood, California; Lois Oleson and her husband, Rick; Leslie Friesner and her husband, David; Daniel Soper and his wife, Marilyn all of Estherville; seventeen grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Boyer and her husband, Gerald of Spencer, Iowa; Sara Reineke of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one brother, Earl Soper of Buckeye, Iowa and one half-sister, Alvina Bosbwich of Willspoint, Texas. Les has been preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, Leslie William Soper and half-brother, William (Bud) Soper. (MC)
