Estherville – Funeral services for Orville Smith, 83, of Estherville will be held Wednesday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Tom Nash officiating. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Estherville. He died Saturday, June 10 at Good Samaritan Apartments.Visitation will be held from 4-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville. Legion of Mary Rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday and a Parish Vigil Service at 8 p.m.
He was born on November 1, 1911 in Estherville, the son of Edward and Julia (Flaherty) Smith and attended country school in Twelve Mile Lake Township. He farmed the family farm and cared for his parents until 1977 when he moved to Las Cruces, N.M. He lived there until January of 1994 when he returned to Estherville and has been living at the Good Samaritan Apartments. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by two sisters, Irene Pluth of Estherville and Alvena Phillips of Estherville; one sister-in-law Bonnie Smith of Estherville; and ten nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June, 1995)
