Shirley Ann Turck, the daughter of John and Joeann (Mulroney) Turck, was born June 20, 1929, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at her home in rural Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 73 years, two months and 28 days.
She received her education in the Emmetsburg Catholic Schools. Later Shirley attended Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
After the completion of her education Shirley moved to Des Moines, Iowa. While living in Des Moines she was employed as a D.J. with radio station KWDM. She was also a manager and radio director for radio station KIOA in Des Moines. Later she returned to the Estherville area where she made her home. Shirley has been self-employed most of her life in various business adventures. Her main vocation in life was raising her seven children and three grandchildren. For hobbies Shirley enjoyed fishing and especially bow hunting. She also enjoyed baking and was well known for her tremendous cooking and baking abilities. Shirley also had a great love for horses.
Shirley was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Auxiliary Post 91; RSVP; and the Democratic Party all in Estherville.
Shirley is survived by her children, Sheryl Hicks and her husband, Larry of Deadwood, South Dakota; Merton Roehler II and his wife, Sherri of Estherville; Sheila Drees and her husband, Steve of Wall, South Dakota; Michael Roehler and his wife, Penny of Knoxville, Iowa; Mark Roehler and his wife, Nancy of Baltic, South Dakota; Patrick Roehler and his wife, Chris of Mankato, Minnesota; nineteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Jeanne Drew of Cylinder, Iowa; Mary Lovell of Leon, Iowa; John Turck of Corpus Christi, Texaas; Ronald Turck of Kileen, Texas; Sheila Atkinson of Brooklyn, Iowa; Terry Turck of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Jim Turck; Mike Turck of Chicago, Illinois; Bob Turck of Chicago; Don Turck of Altoona, Iowa; Wayne Turck; Catherine Turck; Gerald Turck; Marty Turck of Emmetsburg; and Mary Zeimet.
She has been preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Elaine Howell who died in 1981; her parents; and four infant brothers and sisters. (MC)
