George Edward Mart, the son of Peter J. and Margaret (Neu) Mart, was born June 10, 1926 at Pocahontas, Iowa and departed this life on Sunday, May 9, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 29 days.

George was raised in the Pocahontas area and received his education in Pocahontas, graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1943.

On February 13, 1945, George was united marriage to Dorothy Weimers at Pocahontas, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Pocahontas and later Havelock, Iowa. In 1950, they moved to the Estherville area. George farmed until 1966 and then owned and operated the Raleigh Grain Company. Mrs. Mart died May 13, 1988.

George was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. He was a member and National Director of the NFO. George enjoyed fishing as a hobby.

George is survived by three sons and one daughter, Tom Mart and his wife, Donna of rural Estherville; Cheryl Mart of Chandler, Arizona; Mike Mart and his wife, Luann of rural Estherville; Dennis Mart and his wife, Connie of rural Terril, Iowa; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Jean LaBarber and her husband, Mario of New Milford, New Jersey; Eileen Dagit of Williams, Iowa; Willard Mart and his wife, Eloise of Havelock, Iowa; Walt Mart and his wife, Carol of Roseville, California and Donna Groff and her husband, Art of Arlington, Texas.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, two sons in infancy, Kevin and Daniel, his parents, two brothers, Vince and Harold Mart and one sister, Lorraine Mart. (MC)
