Dr. Kenneth "Kenny" Lawrence Johnson 1924-1999

Kenneth Lewis Johnson, the son of Martin Louis and Agnes (Sherlock) Johnson, was born March 14, 1924, in Palo Alto County, Iowa, and departed this life on Wednesday, October 6, 1999, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, six months and 22 days.

Dr. Johnson received his education in the Graettinger, Iowa and Pequot Lakes, Minnesota schools, graduating from Pequot Lakes High School. Following high school, Kenny served in the United States Naval Air Corps during World War Two. He attended the Illinois College of Optometry for five years, graduating in 1949. On September 30, 1946, Kenny was united in marriage to Ellen M. Conway at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. Following Kenny’s graduation in 1949, the couple moved to Estherville, where he established his optometry practice. He was an Optometrist in Estherville for thirty-seven years and retired in 1986. Kenny enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing as hobbies. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Kenny was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus; VFW Post 3388; the American Legion; a former Rotarian; a member of the American Optometric Association for fifty years; and the Iowa Optometric Association for fifty years.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Ellen Johnson of Estherville; his children, Nancy K. Sanderson of Estherville; Gregory K. Johnson of Estherville; Constance Cloak and her husband, Nate of Englewood, Colorado; Deborah Bastian and her husband, Jim of New Ulm, Minnesota; Jeffrey Johnson and his wife, Jane of Louisville, Kentucky; his ten grandchildren, Jenny; Brad; Jessica; Nathan; Cory; Paul; Kevin; Laura; Adam; Martha; his three great-grandchildren, Ryer; Noah; Lydia; two brothers, Maynard Johnson and his wife, LaVonne of Eyota, Minnesota; Eugene Johnson of Grove, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Ann Johnson of Grove, Oklahoma; and Bernice Elwood of Dundas, Minnesota. Preceding Kenny in death were his parents; four sisters; and six brothers. (MC)
