Estherville – Funeral services for Robert Heywood, 64, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., June 4, 1997 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery with Father Al Grendler officiating. He died Sun., June 1, 1997 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Henry-Olson Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born on March 19, 1933 in Estherville, the son of Albert and Alice (O’Brien) Heywood. He received his education in the Estherville schools graduating in 1951. He then attended Estherville Junior College and later General Motor Institute in Flint, Mich. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Mardel Hassel on September 29, 1956 in Estherville. He lived in Estherville until 1984, when the couple moved to Spirit Lake. He owned and operated Motor Inn Dealershps in Estherville, Spirit Lake and Spencer.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville; St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Spirit Lake; Knights of Columbus; VFW; and the Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mardel of Spirit Lake; sons, Jon of Livonia, Mich.; Mark of Estherville; daughters Nancy Heywood of Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Gary (Cathy) Cohrs of Spirit Lake; two grandchildren; Spencer and Sara Heywood; twin sister, Mary Lorene of Nevada; sis [remainder missing] (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June, 1997)
