Owen Guerdet
Owen Guerdet, 72, of Estherville, died unexpectedly at his home on January 2, 2004.Owen was born July 25, 1931, in Regina, Canada, the son of Alphonsus and Elizabeth (Whitworth) Guerdet. The family moved to Armstrong, Iowa, when he was 2 years old. Following high school graduation in 1949, he moved to Estherville.
He was united in marriage to Arlene Whitehill at St. Patrick’s Church on October 9, 1954. He selflessly provided for his family through employment at John Morrell, Butterfield Egg Co., and more recently at Motor Inn.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and visiting with people. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. In the last few years, he devoted day and night to caring for his wife who has Alzheimer’s Disease.
Owen was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and also the Knights of Columbus.
Those survivors left to cherish Owen’s memory include his wife, Arlene; his two sons, Randy Guerdet of Sioux City, and Greg Guerdet and his wife Carolyn of Concord, New Hampshire; 3 grandchildren – Bridgette Hayes and her husband, Eric, Nathan Guerdet and special friend, Keri Grossman and Rachel Guerdet. His six sisters – Jean Thackery and her husband, Vernon of Armstrong, Iowa; Ann Thomsen and her husband Bob of Estherville, Iowa; Louise Attig and her husband, Harry of Glenville, Minnesota; Ruth Behrends of Algona, Iowa; Karen McCoy of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Linda Fischer and her husband, Ray of Keokuk, Iowa. His two brothers – Charles Guerdet and his wife, Nancy, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, and Tim Guerdet of Atlantic, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonsus and Elizabeth Guerdet.
