Leland (Lee) Conrad Alig, the son of Conrad and Jane (Elbert) Alig was born September 2, 1928 in Whittemore, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 76.
Lee attended school in Whittemore and graduated from Presentation Academy Catholic School. He attended Business College in Mason City, Iowa. He was employed at John Morrell & Company for 38 years in various administrative positions including accounting manager and plant controller. On August 31, 1950 he was united in marriage to Doris E. Hanson. They were blessed with 54 years together.
Lee was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. For hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, cards, cribbage, gardening and golf.
Grateful to have shared his life is his wife, Doris of Estherville; his six children, Mike Alig and his wife, Peggy of Estherville; Dave Alig and his wife, Barb of Estherville; Diane Lynch of Mankato, Minnesota; John Alig of Orange City, Iowa; Kate Woods and her husband, Bill of Estherville and Marcia Kulow and her husband, Tom of Keller, Texas; Eleven Grandchildren, who brought him much joy in his life. Lee is also survived by his sisters, Gen Lee of New York; Aurelia Besch of Whittemore; Mayme Reinarts and her husband, Bob of New Ulm, Minnesota; Donna Schwab of Bettendorf, Iowa; and Mary Conrad and her husband, Don of Lake City, Iowa and also many nieces and nephews.
He has been preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Dick Lynch, sisters, Frieda Weidman, Irene Alig, Emmy John and two step-sisters, Carmella Graham and Susan Alig.
Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Estherville. (MC)
