Estherville – Services for Mrs. Kathryn Inez Donovan, 83, Estherville, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville. Father Albert O. Grendler will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.Mrs. Donovan died Monday, Aug. 21, at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.
She was born July 18, 1895, in Wallingford to James and Katherine (Maher) [Lawler] Kennedy. She attended the Estherville schools and graduated in 1915. Later she attended the Normal Training School, Chicago, Ill.
She taught in the Estherville area until WWI and worked for the U.S. Navy Department, Washington, D.C. June 19, 1919, she married Guy Matthew Donovan at Estherville. Mrs. Donovan has lived all of her married life in Estherville, where her husband operated Donovan Motors.
A member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, she was active in the Catholic Daughters of America, Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a past president of that organization and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Her survivors include a son, Edwin, J. Donovan, Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. William (Maxine D.) Hamilton, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mary Kay Donovan, Westfield, New Jersey; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1960, two brothers and four sisters.
Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, is in charge of arrangements. All visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Donovan’s son, Edwin, 509 North Seventh Street. The Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and the parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The rosaries will be recited at the Edwin Donovan home.
