Former Resident Passed Away
Martin S. Julius was born July 27, 1875, in Grundy county, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Seiben Julius, Sr. He was raised in the vicinity of Grundy Center and received his education in the public schools there.

He was united in marriage in 1902 to Jennie Pink of Buffalo Center, and the couple farmed near Buffalo Center and Lakota until 1930 when they moved to the Gruver vicinity. In 1943 they moved to Estherville where they lived until the time of his death.

He is survived by his son, Jennie, his son, Verne, and wife, Edna; two granddaughters, Maxine and Shirley Julius of Estherville; two brothers Sieben, Jr. of Webster City, and Albert of Fargo, N.D.; and two sisters, Mrs. John Hill and Mrs. John Dorenbusch, both of Elmore, Minn.

Mr. Julius was active in community affairs wherever he lived. He served on the school board at Buffalo Center for a number of years, and since living in Gruver and Estherville, regularly attended the Presbyterian church as long as his health permitted. When his illness of about four years duration did not permit his going to church, he found much comfort and help in reading his bible and listening to the religious services over the radio.

He passed away Thursday, September 16, 1948, at Holy Family hospital, Estherville, after a few days of severe illness. He will be remembered by his family and community friends as a good neighbor and citizen, and a kind loving husband and father.

Burial was in Eastside cemetery. Pallbearers were Lloyd Schneck, W.H. Miner, Charles Wissler, John Bush, Walter Grems and John Rolfe. (Buffalo Center Tribune, Buffalo Center, IA, October 14, 1948)
