Evelyn Nissen Reding 1916-2007

Evelyn (Mrs. Lawrence) Reding, age 91, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, after suffering a stroke. She had resided with her husband of 68 years at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home since January 2003.

Mrs. Reding was born on February 11, 1916, at Osmond, Nebraska, the daughter of Henry and Alma (Krohn) Nissen. She received her formal education at District 79 and District 42 schools at Osmond.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence Reding on February 15, 1939, at St. Mary Church in Osmond where they began a farming career. In 1945 they moved to Estherville and farmed near Estherville and Armstrong until their retirement in 1981 to their home in Estherville. She was active in numerous volunteer activities at her church and in the community including being a long term voting pollster in Emmett County. While living at the Carroll Health Center she was given special recognition for her volunteer work in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, Parish Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, and R.S.V.P. Mrs. Reding enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, and an active social life with many friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Reding who resides at the Carroll Health Center; children, Larry Reding and his wife Sandy of West Des Moines, Iowa, Steve Reding and his wife Paula of Castle Rock, Colorado, Doreen Petersen and her husband Everett of Hampton, Iowa, Jealeen Starman and her husband Jerry of Roselle, Iowa, and Galen Reding and his wife Cyndi of Mapleton, Minn.; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a brother, Harlan Nissen of Plainview, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.
