Viola Eleanor (Pierce) Hartman, the daughter of William Charles and Alma Edith (Bush) Pierce was born November 6, 1924, in Auburn, Iowa and departed this life on Monday, August 24, 2009, at the Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 84.

She received her education in the Lake City and Lainesboro schools.

On June 23, 1953 Viola was united in marriage to Donald Hartman in Graettinger, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville and Viola was employed with Holy Family Hospital as a certified nurse's aide for 35 years, retiring in 1984. Viola enjoyed visiting, fishing and going to Kyle and Kevin's sporting and music events.

Viola was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Viola's memory is her husband, Donald Hartman; son, Robert Hartman; daughter, Vicki Grems and her husband, Tom; grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Grems all of Estherville; brother and sisters, Larry Pierce of Indianola, Iowa; Betty Green of Lake City, Iowa; and Erma Ellerston of Cheyenne, Wyoming and many nieces and nephews.

She has been preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Dennis, Fred, Lyle, George, Glenn and Raymond; and also two sisters, Helen Strickland and Mildred Lamb.
