Eva Mabel Andersen, the daughter of James and Mabel (Hester) Andersen, was born September 22, 1923 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 after a diagnosis of lung cancer.
Eva received her primary education from Palo Alto County School and Graettinger High School. She received training as a registered nurse, graduating from Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, May 1944. On January 31, 1953, Eva was united in marriage to Melvin T. Hanson at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger, Iowa. The couple lived in Estherville, Iowa. Together they had seven children.
Eva was employed as an army nurse during WWII, private duty nursing in Chicago, Illinois and on obstetric nurse at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa. After retirement, Eva enjoyed volunteer work at the VFW, nursing homes, church, adult daycare and hospital. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and sewing.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children and their families: Don Hanson and his wife Lesia from Miami, FL and their children Megan and Victoria; Marlene Frost from Burnsville, MN and her children Joseph, Kimberly and her husband Joseph Tourand; Karen Howard and her husband Rick from Estherville, IA and children Stephanie and her husband Darren Todd and their children Shayleigh and Seth, Krystal, Sheri, Nathan; Patty Pelzer from Estherville, IA and her children Matthew, Katy, Diana, Michele, Lisa, Krista; Greg Hanson and his wife Sheri and daughter Lauren. Eva was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, infant twin sons Melvin and Mervin, her parents, brother John Andersen, and sisters Kay McBreen and Margaret Cotton.
