Estherville – Funeral services for John Theesfeld, 87, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Jerry Cosgrove officiating. Military graveside rites by VFW Post 338 – American Legion Post 91 AVMETS Post 3391 will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Estherville. He died at his home on May 31.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today, Monday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

John Joseph Theesfeld, the son of Henry Charles and Barbara (Wagner) Theesfeld, was born August 23, 1915, in Varina, Iowa.

He attended rural country school near Fonda, Iowa. John served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II from November of 1942 through October of 1945.

On May 28, 1940, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Spear at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. After their marriage John was engaged in farming. Later he was employed at John Morrell and Company in Estherville for 30 years. He retired in 1977.

John was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, a lifetime member of VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91, all in Estherville.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Estherville; his children, Donald Theesfeld and his wife, Marleen of Algona; Dorothy Ann Rosa and her husband, Ray of Fairmont, Minn.; Gary Theesfeld of Luverne, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters and brother, Julia Reuland of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Viola Kingsley of Kansas City, Mo.; Marie Roberts of East Moline, Ill.; Duane Theesfeld of Independence, Mo. and Colleen Boucher of Estherville.

He has been preceded in death by an infant son, John Allen; his parents; brothers, Harold; Anthony; Albert; Ronald; Joseph; Wayne; Thomas; and sister, Darlene. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 2, 2003)
