Estherville – Funeral services for Kenneth M. Thompson, 81, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 18 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Monsignor Tom Nash officiating. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Estherville. He died Monday, March 15 at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday with a parish vigil service at 7 pm. At the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born on Sept. 8, 1917 in Palo Alto County, the son of Lars and Emma (Knudson) Thompson. He received his education in the Palo Alto County schools. On Sept. 6, 1941, he was united in marriage to Lillian Boecker in Graettinger. After their marriage, the couple lived in Chicago for two years where he worked in a warehouse. The couple then moved to Estherville where they lived the rest of their married life. Kenny worked for the Estherville Co-Op Creamery for 25 years. He was later employed at the Emmet County Courthouse for 12 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian of Estherville; son, Larry Thompson of Iowa City; daughter, Mrs. John (Marlys) Unrau of Spencer; Sandra Thompson of Estherville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Opal Anderson of Graettinger; Myrtle Raia of Chicago and sister-in-law Mildred Thompson of Arnolds Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 17, 1999)
