George Smith
Superior – George E. Smith, 79, Superior, died Sunday [November 1, 1981] morning at Hill Top Nursing Home, Spirit Lake.Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville, with burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. A rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Monday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville. Friends may call at the funeral after 3 p.m. Monday.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith, he was born Nov. 26, 1901, at Superior. He received his education in the Superior schools. On May 23, 1946, he was married to Vi White at Verness, Mont. They farmed in the Superior area until his retirement four years ago.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Dickinson County Farm Bureau and was associated with the Dickinson County Extension Office.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Arthur, Estherville; two brothers, Frank Smith, Spirit Lake, and Linus Smith, Jackson, Minn.; three sisters, Nellie Wallman, Verndale, Minn., Lucille Mollar, Freeport, Miss., and Fern Abell, Forsyte, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 2, 1981)
