Estherville – Services for Ted Schacherer, 93, of Estherville will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Tom Nash presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery, rural Estherville. He died Thursday, Jan 2, 1997, at his home.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home. Rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. and Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

He was born Feb. 27, 1903 at Wallingford, the son of William and Sophia (Anton) Schacherer. He attended the rural schools, then St. Joseph’s Catholic boarding School at Milford, later going to Loras High School at Dubuque. He was united in marriage with Grace Fothergill on Nov. 24, 1934 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. The couple farmed in rural Emmet County until moving to Estherville in 1960. He later worked at the Emmet County Court House as a bailiff. He was a longstanding member of St. Patrick’s Church in Estherville, where he served as an usher many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include sons: Bill, Jim and Bob of Estherville and Joe of Knoxville. Daughters: Mrs. Eldon (Joan) Swanson of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Mrs. Gordon (Rose Lea) Tonderum, Mrs. Ron (Nancy) Schieuer, Mrs. Parviz (Theresa) Ghazi of St. Paul, Minn., 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one brother, LeRoy Schacherer, Wallingford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife who died Feb 17, 1995; one granddaughter, Mary Jane, and one brother, Ralph. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 4, 1997)
