Estherville – Funeral services for Hannah A. Schacherer, 98, of Estherville, formerly of Graettinger will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Jerry Cosgrove and Msgr. Thomas Donahoe officiating. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Wednesday, May 22 at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, May 27 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with a vigil service at 7 p.m. with a rosary to follow.

Hannah was born on Aug. 19, 1903 in Bellevue, the daughter of John and Angie (Entringer) Erpelding. She received her education in the rural country schools.

On Feb. 10, 1926 she was united in marriage to Ralph Schacherer in Estherville. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Ladysmith, Wisc. area. Later the family returned to Emmet County in the Wallingford area and continued to farm. Ralph died May 24, 1964.

Following Ralph’s death, Hannah moved to Estherville where she managed Cozy Grove Motel. Later she was a clerk at Anthony’s Clothing in Estherville. Then Hannah began doing private in-home care and did that for a period of time.

She moved to Graettinger and lived there for 25 years. Hannah has been a resident of Rosewood Manor in Estherville since August of 1999.

Hannah was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, the Catholic Daughters of America; the Moose Lodge and BABES, a drug educational program.

Hannah is survived by five daughters, Darlene Lair of Estherville, Marjorie Dalen of Glendale, Ariz., Marion Mortenson of Estherville, Thelma Jean (Obby) Brobst and her husband, Dean of Graettinger and Jane Schumann and her husband, Marvin of Spencer; one son, Jerry Schacherer of rural Wallingford; 23 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister-in-law, Gladys Erpelding of Estherville and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant daughter, Judy; three granddaughters; one grandson; one great grandson; parents and two brothers, Mike and Joe Erpelding. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 24, 2002)
