Estherville – Matthew Francis Reuland, 85, Superior, died Wednesday, March 21, 1984, at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville, with interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, with Father Albert O. Grendler officiating. Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, in charge of arrangements. Legion of Mary rosary and a parish rosary were prayed Friday evening, followed by rosary by Knights of Columbus.

He was born May 27, 1896 at White Lake, S.D. His parents were Otto and Connie Reuland. He received his education in the Buena Vista County schools. In 1922 he was married to Hazel Anderson, and they lived in Detroit, Mich., where he was employed by General Motors. She died in 1935.

On Nov. 25, 1939, he was married to Marie Wood in Estherville, and they made their home in Detroit until 1945, when they moved to Superior, where he owned and operated a gas station for many years. She died in 1970.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by three sons, Frank Reuland, San Francisco, Calif., Bernard Reuland, Dunwoody, Ga., and Robert Reuland, Estherville; three daughters, Marcella Reau, West Corsackie, N.Y., Lucille Heizman, Detroit, and Rosemary Reynolds, Mason City; 17 grandchildren; one brother, George Reuland, Superior; and Catherine Reuland, San Diego, Calif.

He was been preceded in death by both wives, two sons, his parents, three brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 24, 1984)
