John Metzger, Sr.
Estherville – Funeral services for John Joseph Metzger Sr., 72, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with the Rev. J. Patrick Nooney officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. He died Sunday, Jan. 27, 1985 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Friend may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Estherville after 3 p.m. Monday. A Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a parish rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Metzger was born June 24, 1912 in Dedham, the son of Joe and Elizabeth (Baumhover) Metzger. He received his education in the Algona schools and was united in marriage to Maxine Bollig on Jan. 25, 1937 at Bancroft. The family moved to Estherville in 1951. He was employed by Fagre Construction in Estherville and McQuay’s in Spirit Lake until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two sons, John Jr., and Howard Metzger, both of Estherville and one daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Carole) O’Rourke of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Beebe, Coon Rapids, and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 28, 1985)
