Estherville – Mary Alice Heywood, 68, Estherville, died Saturday Aug. 19, at her home.

Services for Mrs. Heywood will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville, with interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville. Legion of Mary rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the parish rosary to be said at 7:30 p.m. the same day at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Tuesday.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William O’Brien, she was born April 4, 1910, at Orleans, Minn. She moved to the Estherville area with her parents and received her education in Emmet Consolidated School, rural Estherville, Estherville High School, Estherville Junior College and the University of Northern Iowa.

She was married to Albert Heywood at St. Patrick’s Church, Estherville, on June 15, 1932. Mrs. Heywood taught in rural schools in the Estherville area and in the Estherville school system.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, St. Bridgette’s Circle, VFW Auxiliary, Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary, Holy Family League, board of Estherville Low Cost Housing, Inc., Meals on Wheels, Catholic Daughters of America, Legion of Mary and a former member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church’s Parish Council.

Mrs. Heywood is survived by two sons, Robert Heywood, Estherville, and Stephen Heywood, Iowa City; five daughters, Lorene Martin, Nevada, Janice Knutson, Ames, Kay Olson, Buffalo Grove, Ill., Margaret Hanna, Forest City, and Ellen Heywood, Millersburg; 22 grandchildren; and two sisters, Agnes Hageman, Estherville, and Florence Nutting, Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 21, 1978)
