Estherville – Martin H. Chukker, 84, Estherville and formerly of Gruver, died Tuesday [January 17, 1978] afternoon at Holy Family Hospital here.Services for Mr. Chukker will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville.
Mr. Chukker was born June 3, 1893 [per WWI draft registration, 1892], at West Bend, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Chukker. He received his education in West Bend schools and was appointed telegrapher for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railroad in 1911, being assigned to work at Greene and Rockford.
He was married to Blanche Farnham Aug. 26, 1914, at Rockford. He was appointed agent-telegrapher at Gruver, where he served 31 years until retiring in 1963 and moving to Estherville.
Mr. Chukker was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Bush, Estherville; one sister, Mrs. Helen Rudolph, El Cajon, Calif., and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Chukker was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home from noon Tuesday until time of services Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 18, 1978)
