John Irwin of Gruver Found Dead at Home
John Irwin of Gruver was found dead in the basement of his home at 11:30 Tuesday. Irwin, who lived along, apparently had been in excellent health. It is believed he died early Monday morning, as neighbors reported that house lights were still on Tuesday morning. It is thought that Mr. Irwin went to the basement to take care of the furnace fire when he was stricken with a heart attack.

Mr. Irwin farmed near Gruver for 40 years and during the last several years had lived in town although he remained interested in farm activities.

Mr. Irwin was preceded in death by his wife who died 20 years ago. He is survived by his daughter, Genevieve, who spent the summer months with her father, and by two sons, William, who was recently discharged from the army, and Robert who is employed in a defense plant at Joliet, Ill. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 2, 1944)
