Sudden Death of Mrs. John Irwin Shocks Gruver
Gruver, March 9 – This community was shocked to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. John Irwin at the Birney hospital in Estherville Monday morning. Her death was very unexpected. About three weeks ago she was taken to the hospital for treatment of inflammatory rheumatism. Arrangements for the funeral are not yet made.Miss Gertrude Green was united in marriage to John Irwin February 30, 1917. To this union were born Robert, Genevieve and William. She is survived by her husband and children, Robert, Genevieve and William, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Green of Petersburg, Fla., two sisters, Mrs. Owen Wertzberger and Mrs. Jessie Kleet of Lockport, Ill., and one brother, Ralph Green of Naperville, Ill.
Mrs. Irwin was active in church work, being a member of the Presbyterian church in Gruver. She was a member of the Ladies League, Sunday School and Rebekah lodge. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 9, 1927)
Gertrude B. Irwin, wife of John Irwin, of Gruver, passed away at the Coleman hospital on Monday after a brief illness. Mrs. Irwin was born September 18, 1891. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.M. [Wm] Green, formerly of this city. The funeral services will be held in Gruver on Thursday afternoon. The obituary will be given in our next issue. Many relatives and friends attended the funeral of Mrs. John Irwin at the Presbyterian church last Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The services were in charge of the Rev. Page. The pall bearers were old friends of the family. The beautiful floral offerings showed the esteem in which Mrs. Irwin was held in this community. Burial was in the East Side cemetery at Estherville. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Green of Petersburg, Fla., sisters, Mrs. Jessie Klett and Mrs. Lois Wertzbaughes of Plainfield, Ill., and brother, Ralph, also of Plainfield, were here to attend the funeral. Obituary of Mrs. John Irwin
Gertie Buell Green was born at Paxton, Ill., September 18, 1891, and died at Estherville March 8, 1927, [per cemetery records and stone, March 7] aged 35 years, 5 months, 20 days.When less than a year old her parents moved to a farm near Lockport, Ill., where she spent her childhood and girlhood. The family moved to a farm near Gruver in 1914. She was united in marriage with John C. Irwin February 20, 1917. To this union three children were born, Robert Lemuel, age 9 years; Genevieve, age 7 years, age 7 years; and William Bradley age 5 years. She leaves besides her husband and children to mourn her loss, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Green of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Owen Wertzbaugher of Joliet, Ill., and Mrs. Warren Klett, of Plainfield, Ill., and one brother, Ralph Green of Lockport, Ill., all of whom were here for the funeral.
Mrs. Irwin was a member of the Gruver Presbyterian church and a faithful worker in church and Sunday school; a member of the Ladies’ League and of the Rebekah Lodge.The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the Presbyterian church, Rev. Paige conducting the service. The body was laid to rest in East Side cemetery at Estherville. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 23, 1927)
