Obituary of Jennie Eva Walkup
Jennie Eva Walkup, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Walkup, was born at Ryan, Iowa, August 11, 1868. She lived at Ryan until the time of her marriage to H.M. Ireland on the 4th day of February, 1886.

For a period of eight years Mr. and Mrs. Ireland lived at Rockwell, Iowa; they then moved to Ocheyedan and lived there until 1913, at which time they moved to Estherville, where they made their home since.

Mrs. Ireland united with the Methodist Church in her girlhood days. She was also for years a member of the Rebekah lodge and was a member of the Past Noble Grands. She was a member of the D.A.R. at Fergus Falls, Minn.

Mrs. Ireland has been in failing health for about five years, but she continued her home duties and took part in the activities of organizations to which she belonged as long as physical strength would permit.

Her father and mother as well as one brother and one sister preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Chas. Bixby of Estherville, two grandchildren; two brothers, George Walkup of Fergus Falls, Minn., and Hoyt Walkup of Staples, Minn.

Mrs. Ireland through the years has been ready to help anywhere where help was needed; she will be greatly missed by the different circles of the community in which she has been active, by her many friends and neighbors and of course, most of all in the home, where she has been throughout the years, the queen of the home.

Her life reminds us of the words of the poet when he says,
“I live for those who love me,
For those I know are true
For the heaven that smiles above me
And awaits my spirit too;
For all human ties that bind me
For the task my God assigned me
And the good that I can do.”

In her going we are also reminded of those almost immortal words of Tennyson,

“Sunset and evening star.”
