Mrs. Ernest Hyer Dies; Rites Set
Mrs. Ernest Hyer, 57, died at her home here about 1:30 p.m. yesterday following a lingering illness of five years. She had been bedfast since last November.Mrs. Hyer taught school in Emmet County for two years prior to her marriage to Louis Bendixen. She was active in Methodist church activities here before her illness.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Whiteford, she was born May 23, 1901 near Dickens in Clay County. She attended school at Lake Center and was graduated from high school there. She also attended Iowa State Teachers College.
She was married to Mr. Bendixen on June 2, 1921 and at Spencer to Mr. Hyer March 13, 1946.
Survivors include her husband, six children, 12 grandchildren and five brothers and sisters. Her sons are Leonard, Roy, Howard and Joe Bendixen, all of Estherville. The daughters are Mrs. Virgil (Irene) Reed of Spirit Lake and Mrs. Elmer (LaVon) Brix of Chicago.
Brothers surviving are Ernest Whiteford and Glen Whiteford both of Windom, Minn. Sisters are Mrs. Harry (Eva) Whitman of Ruthven, Mrs. William (Lena) Hildreth of Terril and Mrs. Art (Mabel) Nelson of Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist Church here, the Rev. William R. Noland officiating, Friends may call at Sternborg’s Funeral Home from this evening until noon tomorrow.
Pallbearers will be B. A. Roache, Oscar Lungren, Roy Kirschner, Harold Danielson, Robert Wheatley and Wayne Andre. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 11, 1958)
