Ernest Hyer services held

Ernest Kirby Hyers, 78, Estherville, died at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Hospital. He had been in failing health.

He was married on March 14, 1946, to Mrs. Lela Bendixen at Nashua. He had moved with his parents, in 1902, to a farm in the Maple Hill area and later to the Huntington area, and farmed in Emmet County until he moved to Estherville in 1951. He was employed at the Joyce Lumber Co., and then at the Gardston Hotel until his retirement in 1970.

He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by three step-sons, Leonard Bendixen, Estherville; Howard Bendixen, Clear Lake; and Joe Bendixen, Ames; two step-daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Irene) Reed, Spirit Lake; and Mrs. Elmer (La Vonne) Brix, Bradley, Ill.; and one sister, Mrs. Lee (Esther) Schultz, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one step-son (step-grandson) who lost his life in Vietnam, and his wife.

Services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating. Burial was in East Side Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Jess Rosburg, Milton Larson, Edwin McKean, Arthur Johnson, Clyde Sanborn, and Charles Taylor.

Pallbearers were Walter Feger, Melvin Ellis, William Berven, Francis Smith, Roy Kirchner, Francis Smith, and August Schaper. (Unidentified newspaper clipping, probably the Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA)
