Rites for G. Holmes
Held Sunday at Methodist Church – Passed Away Early Christmas A.M.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church for George G. Holmes, 82, who passed away early Christmas morning. The services were conducted by the Rev. F.W. Ortmeyer pastor of the church. Burial was in the Oak Hill [East Side] cemetery.George Gray Holmes, son of Cyrus and Calista Holmes, was born near Pittfield, Ill, on the [fold in paper] January, 1859. Mr. Holmes was united in marriage to Emma Etta Hormel at Ventura, Ill. on March 16, 1887. Shortly after their marriage they moved to a farm near Ludlow, Champagne County, Ill. In the year 1903 they moved to a farm near Estherville and sixteen years ago they moved to town.
Those in the immediate family who will ever cherish the memory of his life are his beloved wife, one son, Percy Holmes, of Estherville, and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Reymore of Kennewick, Washington, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A third child died in infancy.
Mr. Holmes has for many years been a faithful member of the Methodist church. Previous to his recent illness Mr. Holmes had been present at the Sunday school and church services for a period of nine years and three months without missing a Sunday.
