Services Monday for C.F. Hoffman, 84, Estherville
Funeral services will be held Monday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home at 2 p.m. for Carl Frederick Hoffman, 84, Estherville, who died Thursday [November 13, 1969] at 11:30 a.m. at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home of complications of advanced age. Rev. H. Allen Wirtz will officiate at services.

Mr. Hoffman was born March 20, 1885, at Aurora, Ill., to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hoffman. When he was five years old his family moved to Petersburg, Minn., and then to Estherville when he was seven.

He was educated in the Estherville schools and graduated from high school in 1902. Following his graduation he worked in Ira Adams’ Jewelry Store in Estherville. From there he worked in jewelry stores in Sterling, Ill., and Dubuque.

In 1924 he purchased a jewelry store in Sac City and retired in 1939.

On April 27, 1909, he was married to Edna Lucille Hart at Dubuque. Last April they were married for 60 years. The couple have made their home in Estherville for the past 10 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge, White Shrine and Knights Templar.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Showalter, Union, N.J.; and one son, Frederick, Sterling, Ill.; one grandson, Donald Carl Showalter; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Schmool, Alliance, Neb., and Mrs. Dena Martinson, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother William.

Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home anytime on Sunday until time of services on Monday. There will be Masonic services following the 2 p.m. service at the Fuhrman Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 14, 1969)
