Final Rites for Nellie Higgins Set
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Union Baptist Church for Nellie Higgins, 89, long-time Emmet County resident. Rev. Rawlin Johnson will officiate.

Family services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reese Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. on Sunday until noon Monday. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

Mrs. Higgins died at the Balmer Nursing Home at 11:10 a.m. yesterday. She had been a resident of the home since November, 1963. Death was attributed to infirmities of advanced age.

Nellie Viola Higgins was born Aug. 31, 1875, in Missouri [According to early census records, Scott Co., IA] to Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Trucks. She received her education in rural Coon Rapids schools.

She was married to Charles Higgins of Collins, Mo., Aug. 31, 1896. Following their marriage they lived in Collins for a few years. They then moved to Coon Rapids, and in 1917 they moved to Graettinger. Since 1920 she has been a resident of Emmet county.

Mr. Higgins died in 1935. She is survived by one son, Carl, of rural Estherville; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Huntley of Ceylon, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 1, 1965)
