Howard A. Haywood Sr. Dies Today; Rites Pending
Howard A. Haywood Sr., 71, of rural Estherville, died at 8:30 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital. Mr. Haywood had been in failing health for the past year. Complete biographical information and date and time of services will be published in tomorrow’s Daily News. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 8, 1961)

Rites for Haywood Set
Funeral services for Howard Akin Haywood, 71, who died yesterday morning, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home, the Rev. William R. Noland officiating. Interment will be in the East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home from tonight until the time of services. Pallbearers will be Earl Hornby, Kenneth West, James Hartman, Merrill Origer, Edward Ahrens Jr. and John Natterstad.

Mr. Haywood was born July 14, 1889, in Joliet, Ill., son of Abram and Lillian Haywood. He received his education in Joliet schools and was graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1907. He moved to Emmet County in 1914 and was married to Ola M. Blagg at the home of her parents on Dec. 31, 1919. The couple lived their entire married life on a farm southeast of Estherville.

Mr. Haywood was a longtime member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Kathryn) Merrill of Long Prairie, Minn., and Mrs. Robert (Rosemary) Hartman of Estherville, one son, Howard Haywood Jr., and eight grandchildren. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 9, 1961)
