Charles W. Hash Dies After Stroke
Charles Wesley Hash, 69, retired farmer of the Estherville area, died today at 3 a.m. at Holy Family hospital after an illness of three years due to a series of strokes, the last of which occurred two weeks ago. Thought to be recovering nicely, Mr. Hash became suddenly worse Tuesday morning and was taken to the hospital.

He was born Sept. 9, 1886 at Dupont, Ripley county [Jefferson?], Ind., where he received his education and lived until a young man.

On Dec. 22, 1911 he was married at Peoria, Ill., to Estella Gring of Weedeman, Ill. The couple farmed near Weedman until 1922 when they moved to Emmet county and farmed in this area until the fall of 1946 when they moved to Estherville. Mr. Hash then was employed at the Tobin Packing company until three years ago when his health failed.

He was a member of the Graettinger Methodist church and of the Estherville Loyal Order of Moose.

Mr. Hash is survived by his widow; two sons, Harlan of Spencer and Terry of Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. John (Helen) Simpson of Ida Grove and Mrs. Ray (Frances) Smith of Rolfe and nine grandchildren. Survivors also include two sisters. He was preceded in death by three sons and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Sternborg’s Funeral Home, the Rev. Harrison G. Dawes of First Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Eastside cemetery.

Friends may call at Sternborg’s after 1:30 p.m. Friday until time of services Saturday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 13, 1955)
