Skating Injury Causes Death of Gruver Boy
Harold Hash, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hash living 5 miles southeast of Gruver, died Tuesday [February 5, 1929] following an operation on his left knee. He injured his knee while skating just before Christmas and later had a severe attack of influenza and following the infection developed which affected the bone. It was thought he was recovering, but on Monday he was brought to Estherville where an X-Ray disclosed the fact that an immediate operation was necessary. He was too weak to withstand the shock and passed away just as the operation was completed.Harold Hash was a bright boy. He attended high school at Maple Hill and was a favorite. The news of his sudden death was a shock to the community. At the time of going to press funeral arrangements have not been completed. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, February 7, 1929)
