Mrs. Maggie Harris
Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Harris, 87, an Emmetsburg resident the past four years, were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Estherville. The Rev. Fred Ortmeyer officiated and burial was in East Side Cemetery at Estherville with the Ellsworth-Beiter funeral home in Emmetsburg in charge. The body was taken to the church at 11 a.m. Monday, June 19.Mrs. Harris died on Thursday [June 15, 1961] at the Palo Alto Memorial Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, one daughter, two sisters and four brothers.
The former Maggie Mason, daughter of George and Elizabeth Mason, she was born November 25, 1873 at Pontiac, Illinois. She married Edgar Harris on May 30, 1895. He died in 1931. Mrs. Harris is survived by five children, Mrs. Stanley Norris of Eagle Bend, Minn., Mrs. George Peterson of Austin, Minn., Roy Harris of Estherville, Mrs. James Sidles of Emmetsburg and Mrs. Rex Smith of Fairmont, Minnesota. There are 46 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Emory Goff of Ruthven. (Ruthven Free Press, Ruthven, IA, June 22, 1961)
The Emmetsburg Democrat adds: Mr. and Mrs. Harris farmed in Buena Vista, Palo Alto, Emmet and Dickinson counties until Mr. Harris died in 1931. Since that time Mrs. Harris has lived with Mrs. Sidles and the other children.
