Earl Holroyd is Reported Killed in Action Jan. 11
Was on Duty with Army at Front in Belgium
Pfc. Earl M. Holroyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Holroyd of 502 South 8th Street, Estherville, was killed in action Jan. 11 in Belgium, the family was notified Monday in a telegram from the United States war department.

The telegram, received early this afternoon, read as follows:

“The Secretary of War desires me to express his deep regret that your son, Private First Class Earl M. Holroyd, was killed in action on Jan. 11 in Belgium. Confirming letter follows. Dunlop acting adjutant general.

Private Holroyd who entered the service March 6, 1943, was stationed at Camp Roberts, Calif., where he finished his basic training and was later assigned to the army special training program. He later reported to the College of New York for special instruction under the army specialized training program for special training in engineering, foreign languages and areas and the basic phase. Later he was sent overseas for active duty. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1945)

Pfc. Earl Holroyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Holroyd of Estherville, was killed in action in Belgium Jan. 11, his family has been notified by the war department. Pfc. Holroyd entered the service in March, 1943, and was first stationed at Camp Roberts, Calif. He was later assigned to an army specialized training engineering course. He has been overseas several months, and his family had had Christmas greetings from him during the holiday season. His parents and a brother, Dal, and seven sisters survive. The young man’s father formerly lived in the Milford community and is well known by many of the older residents here. (Milford Mail, Milford, IA, February 8, 1945)
