Longtime Resident of County Dies
Walter Grems, 81, a resident of Emmet County for 78 years, died at Holy Family Hospital this morning. He had been in the hospital since Feb. 7 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.

Born Jan. 29, 1881 at Fredericksburg, Mr. Grems moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Grems, to Emmet County in 1884 by way of a covered wagon and settled in the Gruver community. Mr. Grems’ education was received in rural Emmet County schools.

He was married to Susie Brannan on April 29, 1909 and continued to farm in the Gruver vicinity until 1945 at which time the Grems moved to Estherville. He had been an employee of Butterfield Produce Co.

Mr. Grems is survived by his widow, one brother, George, Rock Island, Ill.; one half-brother, John Goldsberry, Gruver; three sons, Merle, Lester and Willis, all of Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Vern (Edna) Julius, also of Estherville; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services are set for 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Christian Church in Estherville. The Rev. Lester Strubhar will officiate with burial to be in East Side Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 23, 1962)
