Frank Ellwanger Succumbs Tuesday
Frank John Ellwanger, 84, Estherville, died 12:30 Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1971, at Good Samaritan Center. He had suffered a heart attack Oct. 29 and was hospitalized for a month, moving to the Good Samaritan Center Dec. 1.He was born June 24, 1887, at Crocker to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel J. Ellwanger. He was educated in Ankeny schools. He was married to Lulu Woods May 6, 1908, at Ankeny. They lived in Ankeny until 1914 when they moved to a farm near Emmetsburg.
In 1918 they moved to Emmetsburg and he became associated with the Standard Oil Co. at that time. April 1, 1921, he was transferred to Estherville where he operated the Standard Station at the corner of First Ave. North and North 7th St. across from the courthouse until his retirement Feb. 9, 1969. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Estherville, and was affiliated with the B.P.O.E. of the Elk’s Lodge, the I.O.O.F. and the Knights of Pythias.
He is survived by his wife, Lulu, Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Harris (Pearl) Myers, Estherville; one granddaughter, Janice Myers, Minneapolis; one grandson, Wayne Myers, Estherville; one brother, George Ellwanger, Rose Valley, Saskatchewan, Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel in Estherville with the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.
