Mack Ellis, 76, Dies of Heart Attack
Mack Ellis, 76, longtime resident of Emmet County, died Sunday [November 19, 1967] about 7 a.m. after suffering a heart attack at his home.

Mack M. Ellis was born Jan. 18, 1891, at St. Joseph, Ill., the son of Uriah and Ida Ellis. He received his education in Illinois, and in 1909 came to Emmet County.

On Dec. 24, 1914, he was married to Christine [Christene] Schmidt in Estherville. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Ellis farmed in Emmet and Dickinson counties. After their retirement, they moved to Estherville. Here he was employed for a time by the Emmet County ASCS.

Mr. Ellis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He had been assessor in Ellsworth Township, a member of the Emmet Consolidated School board, member of the Estherville Cooperative Creamery board, of the Superior Cooperative Elevator board, the Emmet County fair board, the Emmet County Farm Bureau board, and had been a 4-H leader.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Don (Evelyn) Kirchner of Gruver; three sons, Melvin of Estherville, Delbert of Independence, Wis., Evert of Eleva, Wis.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Tom (Nellie) Smith of Oakland, Calif.

Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, the church service to be preceded at 1:30 by a family service, Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home until noon Tuesday when the body will be taken to the church.

Honorary pallbearers include Ray Ridler, Jess Rosburg, Cliff Philpott, Elmer Rogers, Ivol Clark, Frank Smith, Loyal Smith, Carl Newguard, Clayton Schenck, Lynn Weir, August Rosenberger and Harley Christiansen.

Active pallbearers will be Carl Holdorf, Arnold Anderson, Herb Dean, Rush L. Johnson, Henry Soat, and Syd Northey. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 20, 1967)
