Rites for Mrs. W.G. Were Held Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. W.G. Cockburn who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.A. Malander in Oakes, N.D., was held Monday at 2:30 at the Baptist church. Interment was made in the east side cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Clark Lingenfelter, Keith and Harry Cockburn, accompanied by the Mahlum & Anderson ambulance left for North Dakota Friday to bring the body back for burial.

Anna Hubbell was born in Fox Lake, Wis., Jan. 8, 1854, and died June 24, 1938 at the age of 84 years. In 1875 she was united in marriage to William G. Cockburn at Decorah, where they resided until 1884 when the moved to a farm southwest of Estherville where they have lived for the past 54 years.

She is survived by six children, Mrs. C.A. Mallander of Oakes, N.D., Mrs. Geo. Lingenfelter, Renville, Minn., Mrs. Clark Lingenfelter, Estherville, Harry Cockburn, Sioux Falls, S.D., Keith Cockburn, Terril and Donald Cockburn, Estherville and seven grandchildren, Mrs. Kedric Tindal, Estherville, Mrs. Ed Starkey, Estherville, Bobby and Ruth Cockburn, Sioux Falls, S.D., Wayne Lingenfelter, Olivia, Minn., Mrs. Ray Elb, Steger, Ill., Melvina Cockburn, Bancroft and seven great grandchildren and one brother, John Hubbell of Amboy, Minn.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Union Baptist church at 2:30 following a short prayer service at the Mahlum & Anderson Chapel. Rev. J. Albert Riggs, pastor of the church was in charge. Musical numbers were given by the singers of the church and a special solo, one of Mrs. Cockburn’s favorite hymns, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” was rendered by Chester Oleson, one of the neighbor boys who had known and loved Mrs. Cockburn all his life.

Pall bearers were also neighbors of the deceased woman. Irving Martens, Frank Dobberstein, Nelson Wheatley, Lew Stark, Harry Brown and Maurice Olson.

Those from out of town who were able to attend the services were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baldwin, Waterloo, and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lingenfelter, Renville, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Lingenfelter, Olivia, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cockburn and children Sioux Falls. – Estherville Daily News (Terril Record, Terril, IA, June 30, 1938)
