L.L. Clements, 55, died Saturday morning at his home on the Westside after an illness of nearly one year. He suffered a stroke on June 1st of last year from which he rallied enough to be up and about the house a little. In September he had a relapse and was bedfast until his death.

Last rites were held yesterday morning at 10:30 at the home and 11 o’clock at the Methodist church with the Rev. F.W. Ortmeyer officiating. Burial was made in Lanesboro, Ia., yesterday afternoon. Pall bearers were George Bartleman, Will Logan, George Frank, Dell Blake, Elmer Clark and Guy Noel.

He is survived by his widow and three children, Mrs. Lester Ramsey, Elsie and John. Also two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Calhoun of Des Moines, and Mrs. Minnie Long of Springfield, Mo. He is preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Lloyd Clements was born in Tipton on April 16, 1881 and when a small boy moved to Lake City with his parents, where he grew to manhood. He went to the western part of South Dakota when a young man and homesteaded until coming to Emmet county 22 years ago. On Dec. 26, 1909 he was united in marriage to Emma Oyen at Plainview, S.Dak.

They lived on farms near Huntingon and Dolliver and on a farm northeast of Estherville. Nine years ago he retired and moved to Estherville locating on the Westside. Until his stroke he was employed at the Implement department of the Northern Lumber Co.

L.L. Clements, Retired Farmer, Dies Saturday
L.L. Clements, 56, a well-known and highly respected retired farmer, passed away at his home on North Second avenue last Saturday morning after a long illness. He had a severe stroke last June from which he never recovered and from the effects of which, he has been slowly failing. For the past month he has been in a very serious condition and the end was expected almost daily.

Mr. Clements moved to this city some nine years ago, after retiring from active farm duties. He was always affiliated with any movement of interest to the farmer and was a leader in many of these activities.

The family has resided in Emmet county for twenty-two years and during that time have made many warm friends. Mr. Clements is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Lester Ramsey and Miss Elsie Clements and one son, John.

The funeral services were held from the home at ten-thirty a.m. on Monday and from the Methodist church at eleven o’clock, the Rev. F. W. Ortmeyer officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery at Lanesboro, a former home of Mr. Clements. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 8, 1937)

Friends were grieved when the word was received that Mr. L.L. Clements of Estherville had passed away at his home Saturday morning. The Clements family lived one and one-half miles west of Dolliver before moving to the Estherville neighborhood and have many friends here who extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.
