Mrs. Fern Clausen
Mrs. Fern Freed Clausen, 73, Estherville, died at 3 p.m. Monday afternoon at the Holy Family Hospital from a heart attack.

She was born Jan. 31, 1898, in Clay County, to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Freed. She received her education in the Spirit Lake schools.

On May 22, 1961, she was married to Alfred Clausen at Fairmont. He died in May of this year.

She had lived in Estherville since 1915, and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Vernon Steele, Evansdale; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Geraldine) Crees, Estherville, and Mrs. Floyd (Bernice) Givens, Estherville; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Freed, Lebanon, Ore.; and two sisters, Mrs. Susan Webber, Estherville; and Mrs. Paul Drueshella, Humboldt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Ray Steel, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel in Estherville, with burial in East Side Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Pearson will officiate.

Pallbeares will be Tom Keeler, Alvin Stueland, Jerry Summers, Richard Roe, Robert Potter and W.W. Webber.

Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Tuesday until time of service on Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 10, 1971)
