Well-Known Lady Dies
Mrs. N.C. Christensen is Called to Reward Monday [September 28, 1942] After Short Illness
Mrs. N.C. Christensen, 66, one of Estherville’s most highly esteemed women, died at her home, 715 North Ninth street, at one o’clock Monday morning. Mrs. Christensen had suffered a heart attack about two months ago and had failed since then.

Funeral services were held at one thirty yesterday afternoon at the home and at two o’clock from the Estherville Lutheran church. Rev. L.A. Mathre officiated.

Maren Mikkelson was born in Thisted, Denmark, May 8, 1876. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Denmark and came to the United States in 1899 at the age of twenty-three. She made her home first at Humboldt. On March 6, 1900, she was married to N.C. Christensen.

Mr. and Mrs. Christensen moved to a farm east of Estherville and lived there for seven years. In 1927 they moved to an acreage in the east part of Estherville living there until 1940 when they moved into town.

Mrs. Christensen is survived by her husband, three sons, Jens, Andrew and Einer all of Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Shaw of Carroll and Mrs. Berger Handeland of this city. Four sisters and two brothers are believed to be still alive in Denmark. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 1, 1942)
