E.A. Carey, J.K. Carey and John Campbell mourn the loss of their mother who died Monday [December 14, 1925] at the home of her son, Jesse, near Fenton. Mrs. Campbell has been in failing health for some time being 83 years of age. She leaves besides her son, her aged husband. The funeral will be held from the Presbyterian church at Gruver Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock and Rev. Davies of Estherville preaching the funeral sermon. Burial will be in the East Side cemetery at Estherville. Obituary will be in next week’s paper. The sympathy of the community is extended the Carey and Campbell families in the loss of their mother. Mrs. James E. Campbell
Sarah Ellen Clutter was born August 27th, 1843, near Louisville, Kentucky. When 4 years of age she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clutter to Missouri, settling on a farm 6 miles west of Shelbina. At the age of 18 years she united with the Baptist church of which she was ever a true and faithful member. In 1868 she was united in marriage to Edmund Carey to which union 5 children were born, J.K. and E.A. residing near Gruver, Henry, Alice and Aaron preceding her in death. Mr. Carey died in 1881. In 1884 she was united in marriage to James E. Campbell to which union 3 children were born, Jesse L., with whom Mr. and Mrs. Campbell have resided for several years no living near Fenton, Iowa; James E. of near Fairmont, Minn., and John T. residing near Gruver, Ia. Her husband, 5 children and 23 grandchildren are left to mourn her loss. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and while her life was made up of many hardships and ill health for some time, she never complained, but took everything as though sent by God’s hand to make up her daily life here, ever showing her true and faithful Christian spirit. Estherville Enterprise adds: At the time of her death Mrs. Campbell was 82 years, 3 months and 17 days old. (December 23, 1925)
